Comparison of electron and phonon transport in disordered semiconductor carbon nanotubes

چکیده
Charge and thermal conductivities are the most important parameters of carbon nanomaterials as candidates for future electronics. In this paper we address the effects of Anderson type disorder in long semiconductor carbon nanotubes (CNTs) to electron charge conductivity and lattice thermal conductivity using the atomistic Green function approach. The electron and phonon transmissions are analyzed as a function of the length of the disordered nanostructures. The thermal conductance as a function of temperature is calculated for different lengths. Analysis of the transmission probabilities as a function of length of the disordered device shows that both electrons and phonons with different energies display different transport regimes, i.e. quasi-ballistic, diffusive and localization regimes coexist. In the light of the results we discuss heating of the semiconductor device in electronic applications. PACS 65.80.-g, 61.46.Fg, 63.22.-m, 66.70.-f, 68.65.-k

Plasmon assisted transport through disordered array of quantum wires
– Phononless plasmon assisted transport through a long disordered array of finite length quantum wires is investigated analytically. Generically strong electron plasmon interaction in quantum wires results in a qualitative change of the temperature dependence of thermally activated resistance in comparison to phonon assisted transport. At high temperatures, the thermally activated resistance is...

متن کاملElectron transport and hot phonons in carbon nanotubes.
We demonstrate the key role of phonon occupation in limiting the high-field ballistic transport in metallic carbon nanotubes. In particular, we provide a simple analytic formula for the electron transport scattering length, which we validate by accurate first principles calculations on (6, 6) and (11, 11) nanotubes. The comparison of our results with the scattering lengths fitted from experimen...
متن کاملSemiclassical transport and phonon scattering of electrons in semiconducting carbon nanotubes
Current flow, considering a semiclassical electron–electric-field interaction and electron scattering by acoustic phonons, is studied in semiconducting zig-zag carbon nanotubes. The p-electronic band structure and the phonon spectrum of the nanotube are both calculated from graphene by the zone-folding method. Scattering rates are calculated using first-order perturbation theory and the deforma...
متن کاملInelastic transport in vibrating disordered carbon nanotubes: scattering times and temperature-dependent decoherence effects.
By using an order N quantum transport methodology, and treating on the same footing static and dynamical disorders, we report on the theoretical exploration of quantum interferences tuned by electron-phonon mediated decoherence mechanisms in disordered carbon nanotubes (with length up to 10 microm). This allows the extraction of inelastic scattering times together with temperature-dependent coh...
